Cool Stuffz

So yeah, pretty sweet animation.

I loved that Darnell's lips were so stereotypically huge-- pretty hilarious move.

Opening credits being done as drawings on paper in front of Pico = awesome and creative. Nice.

Who was the guy pumping weights?

Also, on the computer, written in Wingdings 2, is the words "Angry Face."

I love when little things are put in animations to make them even more fun for the observant watcher. I read below about the equation on the board-- Love it! Great way to pay homage to other artists/creations!

Overall, cool fight, although it's kinda weird to have Tom Fulp be the hero that saves the day.

Pegosho responds:

OMG, you just deciphered it! I added it to make the computer more alien-like but to see that someone took the time to look for it makes me really happy. Thanks for that. :)

The guy pumping weights was MindChamber, he is part of the NG staff. He makes cool animations plus he did the preloader of this year's Pico Day.

Philosophy Through Art

I was pleased to see Jszostak's interpretation of your animation (read a few below this review)-- I'm glad others can see that this actually has some depth-- albeit some ambiguity. The father's appearance and behavior seemed especially important-- he was completely black, a void of color and connection. I would think the animation was more a comment on lack of connection than lack of control-- but definitely see how it could be interpreted another way. When it's this ambiguous, it's hard to say for sure what the author truly intended.

As far as animation goes, I thought the use of filters and blurring to denote depth was masterfully done. The father's movement, especially during the brief close-up, was amazing; very fluid and appropriately blurred.

Anyways-- very cool animation. Keep up the good work!

redminus responds:

Oh man,
It's awesome that people are thinking about this little thing and offering their own interpretations. I could've gone into detail describing the meaning, but I think that (like most things) people who like it will get more out of it if they can look at it from their own angle.
Sort of like some kind of an animated rorschach test?
Okay but I'll stop now. Thanks for your review~!

Shock Value

The animation was jerky for most of the movie, unfortunately. While I'm not an animator, and hence the product of your work is infinitely better than anything I can(not) make, it doesn't take an artist to see this isn't the highest quality animation. Definitely not bad, when compared to a lot of junk I see, but also not very good.

What really makes me score you lower is that there is absolutely no story here-- it is shock value for shock value's sake! Gruesome and disturbing images does not a story make. I mean, I would expect that kind of story from a 3rd grader at a campfire, "A bug went into a basement at the circus, and there was a mangled clown shackled to the wall, and uh, the bug climbed in a whole in the guys leg and wound up in the guys neck and then, umm, the bug crawled in the clowns mouth, and guess what! the clown ATE THE BUG!... oh yeah, then the bug's partially masticated body was spewed out of the clowns chest cavity onto the floor... and uh, another bug ate IT!" Seriously?

The music fit the goal of the animation perfectly-- I felt a chill shoot up my spine in the first few seconds of the animation.

I think your animation and sense of horror are on their way, especially since this is your first Flash animation, but you need to work on plot for your next piece of work (which I hope you will make-- you definitely have potential).

JohnDavidHeptinstall responds:

lol yeah I was complaining to myself all through making this that it actually had no plot, but I chose to create it in a manner where a seperate story could be percieved by the watcher, but thanks for such constructive judgement - and for the praise of the sound, and I will be focusing on plot in the future

I like to draw some, but am not nearly good enough to make any kind of actual animation; nor am I proficient in Flash. However, I have been a fan of Newgrounds animations and games for a while, and I know what is good and what is the suck.
